According to WTOC Savannah, in an article (written by Brooke Kelly) the owner of Cash-N-Carry, a self service salvage yard, handed over a $5,000 check to the American Red Cross.
The money raised came from the $1 door fee customers pay to enter the salvage yard. In ten days, the owner was able to collect $5,000.
The owner Kenny Grainger says after seeing all the devastation on television he just wanted to help out in anyway he could.
“It’s in the right hands and will make an effect over in Haiti and if we could help out that was our goal,”said Grainger.
The CEO of the American Red Cross Savannah Chapter Robin Wingate, says she is overwhelmed by all the local support.
“The Savannah community is such a giving community and I just wake up every morning and I am amazed by all this giving back and all these people who have Haiti in their minds,”said Wingate. Wingate says so far the American Red Cross has raised $78 million for Haiti relief.
